Tokushima Vortis went through to the next round in the Emperor’s Cup after beating Ehime on penalties, making it another positive result for Ricardo Rodríguez’s team.
Ehime had the first chance to score during the game in the first half. However, Tokushima Vortis’ solid defense stopped them from taking the lead. Tokushima Vortis responded with a couple of chances to score. The first came from a spectacular shot from outside the penalty area and after hitting the crossbar, came off the head of Tokushima Vortis’ forward who was very close to giving the Blues the lead.
After an even match, everything was decided from the penalty shootout. Tokushima Vortis were able to seal the win with five penalties, thanks to a winning penalty from Urinboev, and got the ticket to the next round.
