Matchday 11 of Thai Premier League in which Suphanburi visited the stadium of one of the favourite teams to win the League, Muang Thong. Local victory at the end in a tight match, fought head-to-head, in which each team dominated one half and that was decided with a polemic penalty.
Muang Thong was the team that dominated the first half, although without creating good goal chances. They had the first two opportunities, first with a crossing from the left side to the heart of the box that a rival forward headed wide out to the left of the goal defended by Sinthaweechai, and then with a soft shot from the edge of the box that went out to the right post of the goal. The first chance for the visiting team came from a far free-kick executed by Rangsan with a powerful but centred shot that the goalkeeper managed to clear to corner placing a hand close to the bar. The polemic play of the match came in a free-kick from right wing, close to the corner, for the local team. The crossing to the box, very closed, hit the face of Rangsan and the referee interpreted the ball impacted the arm and conceded the penalty. The penalty was converted by Cleiton with a strong shot to the right of Sinthaweechai; it was minute 37 and the local team was taking the lead without doing special merits for it.
Suphanburi clearly dominated the second half, pressing more and creating clearer opportunities. The first one was for Jakkapan with a shot from outside the box in the right side that went wide out. The visiting team could tie the match after a breakthrough by Luiz to the goal line, but his crossing could not be kicked on goal properly by Chappuis and the ball went wide out. The next chance would be the best one in the entire game, in a crossing to the box from right side by Wasan after a long play, the ball was kicked on goal by Jakkapan in a one-touch shot, the goalkeeper cleared the ball with some trouble but left the ball in front of him where Carmelo was, who missed inexplicably the goal and sent the ball to the post. Another crossing to the box from the right side to the far post ended with a soft header by Tinnakorn that went directly into the goalkeeper’s hands. The following one was for Rangsan with a shot from outside the box that went directly to the hands of the rival goalkeeper. Chappuis had the last chance with a strong shot from outside the box that went out over the bar. The local team defended the goal the entire second half and barely created any chance.
After this defeat Suphanburi goes down a spot and it is now seventh, although tied to 18 points to Ratchaburi (sixth) and Chiangrai United (eighth). The rival today, Muang Thong, is the new leader with 27 points, followed by Bangkok United with 25 points and Bangkok Glass with 24.
