Very important victory for Tokushima Vortis against Machida Zelvia in a match characterized by the great amount of offensive opportunities for the men of Ricardo Rodriguez. Up to this match, Tokushima Vortis had demonstrated its ability to control the game from the midfield, but against Machida Zelvia it also made clear that it is a particularly dangerous team in the counterattack, due to the quality of their players with vertical and decisive passes. The 0-1, with a goal by Maekawa, is of absolute importance for Tokushima Vortis, and allows them to remain at the top positions of the Japan League 2.
Tokushima Vortis pushed for the victory from the beginning, with clear goal chances. The first one came soon, in a play from the right wing. Hirose assisted Watari, whose header went out by a few centimetres. A moment later Takahara, goalkeeper of Machida Zelvia, saved the goal with a spectacular save to the shot by Maekawa. It was the announcement of what was to come in the 10th minute of the match. In a quick transition defence-attack by the visiting team, Hirose found a through-pass between lines to Maekawa to leave him in front of the goal. The midfielder scored with a brilliant kick over the goalkeeper to put the 0-1 in the scoreboard. Tokushima Vortis finally found the prize of the goal. Machida Zelvia entered the game after the goal with an opportunity for Inoue, whose shot went over the goal defended by Kajikawa, goalkeeper of Tokushima Vortis.
In the second half, with more spaces, Tokushima Vortis created again rapid transitions defence-attack. In one of them they could score the second goal, but the goal was saved again by the goalkeeper of Machida Zelvia with a good save. Meanwhile, a ball loss in midfield created the best opportunity for the local team, with a shot from outside the box of Yoshida that did not cross the line, saved between Kajikawa and the post. Luck was this time on the side of Tokushima Vortis. In the last minutes, Watari had a unique opportunity to score the second goal. However, this was not his match: his shot, inside the box, went out over the goal of Machida Zelvia. Despite the error, the victory fell of the side of Tokushima Vortis, that is now third in the Japan League 2, with 17 points, only one behind the leader, Tokyo Verdy. In the next match the men of Ricardo Rodriguez will play again an away game against JEF United.
