Third defeat of the season for Tokushima Vortis, this time against JEF United. A match in which the stars were the coaches: Juan Eduardo Esnáider and Ricardo Rodríguez. Two coaches educated under the so-called “Spanish academy”, with a liking for an attacking style of play as the main trademark. The victory in this occasion was for Juan Eduardo Esnáider and JEF United.
The score of the match was heavily influenced by the red card to Mawatari in the 13th minute of the game. Tokushima Vortis lost soon one of their best players in the beginning of this season. Ricardo Rodríguez tried to reorganize the team by substituting Maekawa for Ishii. However, there was no time for the substitution to be effective, as JEF United scored immediately the 1-0 by Takahashi after a nice play and assist by Kiyotake. Despite being playing with one player less and being down in the scoreboard, Tokushima Vortis kept the order in all their lines.
The visiting team could level the match in the second half in a play by Shimaya, but his shot with the left foot went out of the goal of JEF United. Tokushima Vortis pushed hard for the tie throughout the second period, but it was JEF United who scored the second goal in the 94th minute by Ibusuki, who had entered the match to play the last fifteen minutes.
The defeat is a step back for the men of Ricardo Rodríguez, who are now seventh in the standings with 17 points. Nevertheless, the distance with the top remains within three points. Yokohama is now leader with 20 points after 10 spectacular matchdays that have showed that any team aspiring to promote to Japan League 1 will need to have a regular performance throughout the season.
Best news for Tokushima Vortis is that revenge for the defeat against JEF United will come soon. On Wednesday the men of Ricardo Rodríguez play a home game against Avispa Fukuoka, team currently placed in the lower part of the table.
