Tokushima Vortis conquered a very important away victory to definitely engage with the top spots that can take them directly to Japan League 1. The match against Avispa Fukuoka was circled in red in the calendar of the men of Ricardo Rodriguez. This result was key to define the objective in this second stretch of the season that lies ahead. With the 0-1, the hopes of achieving direct promotion are wide open. Even more after the defeat of Shonan Bellmare against Montedio Yamagata by 3-0. Thus, the table is now led by Shonan Bellmare with 47 points, Avispa Fukuoka with 46 and Tokushima Vortis already with 43. Moreover, the next matchday Tokushima Vortis plays at Shonan Bellmare´s home. It is impossible to get more thrilling.
The same emotion that the match against Avispa Fukuoka had. A very serious game on the part of Tokushima Vortis, tremendously concentrated from the beginning. Watari had the first great opportunity with a shot that went over the bar of Avispa Fukukoka’s goal after deflecting on a defender. The locals responded with a shot inside the box by Gilsinho, stopped by Hasegawa, in great shape. The goalkeeper of Tokushima Vortis has only conceded three goals since the last defeat, seven games ago. Before closing the first half, Sugimoto tried with a shot from outside the box that went wide out.
The second half was a bit more open, with the two teams searching for the three points. Hasegawa had to intervene in minute 55 to clear a dangerous ball inside the box. Ten minutes later came Tokushima Vortis’ goal in a play started by Sugimoto with a spectacular start from midfield. The midfielder dribbled one by one all Avispa Fukuoka players until he reached the box, where he was knocked down. The referee did not interpret it as a penalty, but the play continued to become a kind of rugby scrum. In the middle of the melee, Shimaya appeared to squeeze among the defenders and send the ball to the net.
A goal that was a treasure. That is why Avispa Fukuoka pressed hard the last minutes over the area of Tokushima Vortis in search at least for the tie and keep the distances in the table. In the 87th minute of the match, Wellington connected a strong volley shot that was repelled by Hasegawa, well placed on goal. Although the game extended to the minute 96, Avispa Fukuoka, in tune with the rest of the game, failed to find any more goal chances. Tokushima Vortis resisted with strength to add three vital points for their interests.
