Matchday 34: Tokushima Vortis 2 - Machida Zelvia 2

Watari was the great hero of Tokushima Vortis in the home draw against Machida Zelvia. The striker was the author of both goals to rescue an important point for Tokushima Vortis who, despite not being in the best moment of the season, never gives up in a match. It is the philosophy that Ricardo Rodríguez has managed to establish in his players, who again made a comeback in the game. Tokushima Vortis remains in the seventh place of the Japan League 2 with 53 points, only two points less than Matsumoto Yamaga, the great objective now for the Blues: it is the team that closes the spots that give access to the promotion play offs.

Ricardo Rodriguez introduced several changes in the lineup, among them Kiyohara, who had the first great chance of the match. His shot with left foot, inside the box, was saved by Takahara, Machida Zelvia’s goalkeeper. The locals were dominating the match and the goal opportunities. Watari came close to score the first goal with a good shot with his left foot that hit the post. Maximum offensive frustration for Tokushima Vortis, who received a hard blow in the 41st minute of the match with a goal from Masuda after a free-kick.

In the second half and being behind in the scoreboard, Tokushima Vortis made some substitutions. Sasaki and Maekawa entered in a bet for a more offensive version. A situation that Machida Zelvia took advantage of to make the 0-2 in a counterattack in the 71st minute. Nakashima kept the ball against the local defence to assist Suzuki, who did not miss against Hasegawa. The distance in the scoreboard seemed insuperable, but Tokushima Vortis responded with the goals of Watari. The first one right away with a header in a corner kick (minute 73). The second one, in the 83rd minute, spectacular, undoubtedly one of the best goals so far this season: he received outside the box, dribbled his mark and scored with a spectacular shot with the left foot, impossible to stop for the goalkeeper. A great goal to keep Tokushima Vortis in the fight (eleven draws already in the season) to reach the play-off spots. The men of Ricardo Rodriguez will face the next matchday a new final against Kamatamare Sanuki.
