Tokushima Vortis could not continue with their winning streak that had placed them in the play-off spots.
The locals had the first chance of game shortly after kick-off with a soft shot inside the box that was deflected by the defense of Tokushima Vortis. Ricardo Rodríguez’s team had to wait until the 20th minute of the match to have their first opportunity. After a corner kick, Shimaya executed a good shot from outside the box that was stopped by a great save of Otani, Albirex Niigata’s goalkeeper. The match was even, until Kawata appeared. The local forward starred in the play of the game, with a great breakthrough from midfield that ended in goal. Carvajal touched slightly the ball, but not enough to avoid the 1-0. This way ended a first half where Tokushima Vortis paid the efforts made in the last matches.
For this reason, Ricardo Rodriguez moved the bench in the second half with the entry of Sato and Jong Pil to shake the attack of Tokushima Vortis. However, Kawata continued to produce all dangerous actions. Carvajal, in the 52nd minute, had to react with agility to avoid the 2-0. The visitors had the opportunity to tie the match in the last minute of the game in a long ball to Yamasaki. Tokushima Vortis’ striker executed a great shot from the edge of the box that was deflected by the local goalkeeper in the best save of the game. It was the last chance for Tokushima Vortis, that showed a lower tone than in previous matchdays.
The defeat makes Tokushima Vortis fall to the ninth place in the Japan League 2, led once again by Fagiano Okayama. Tokyo Verdy awaits in the next matchday, a direct rival for the promotion.
