Matchday 18: Tokushima Vortis 1 - Machida Zelvia 2

Tokushima Vortis could not add against a direct rival in the fight for the play-off spots. The match against Machida Zelvia was a unique opportunity to have hooked definitively to the top part of the table, but with this defeat they will have to keep fighting to reach that option. The blues remain with 22 points in the thirteenth position, thus moving seven points away from the sixth place, defended by Fagiano Okayama.

The last month of competition has been very demanding for the men of Ricardo Rodríguez, with a streak of matches against the best teams of the Japan League 2 and also the Emperor’s Cup. In this match Tokushima Vortis could not maintain their high level of play consistently. Meanwhile, for Machida Zelvia shone its forward, Yoshihama, a footballer with a great quality in his left foot. The match started with a great opportunity for Tokushima Vortis. Omoto broke through in right wing to reach the rival’s box. However, his shot was deflected after a great save by the goalkeeper of Machida Zelvia. Following that play, the visitors took control of the match, opening the score in a free-kick headed into the goal by Nakashima in the 17th minute. Yoshihama could have extended the distance in the scoreboard for Machida Zelvia only a few minutes later, but his shot went out very close to Tokushima Vortis’ goal. The men of Ricardo Rodríguez would find the goal half hour into the game as a result of their faith in pressing the rival. After two errors in the clearing by Machida Zelvia’s goalkeeper, Shimaya found the prize in the third attempt. A strange goal, although of the same value.

The second half started with an unexpected blow for the locals, that received the 1-2 in the 48th minute. It was Yoshihama after a great collective play by Machida Zelvia, where they made clear that they are a team with great technical quality in most of their players. Ricardo Rodriguez tried to find the reaction of his team with two substitutions with fifteen minutes to go, but Machida Zelvia was impenetrable. There were two chances to tie the game, but both shots were cleared by the visiting defenders.

Now it is time to recover and activate for the next matchday against Renofa Yamaguchi FC, co-leader of the competition with Avispa Fukuoka.
