Last Wednesday started our path in the FA Cup, the second most important trophy in Thai football. Teams from Thai Premier League start in third round and we had to face in our home stadium Chiangmai FC, a team from the northern part of the country, which is currently playing in Yamaha Ligue 1 (Thai Second Division). We won 5-3 in overtime, so we go through to next round as it was a knock-out game.
Although we won at the end, the match did not start in the best way for us, 30 minutes into the first half we were already losing 0-2 and without being able to create any goal chances, just one by Heberty in a free-kick that was saved between the goalkeeper and the bar.
Yet things changed completely in the second half and Douglas, with 2 goals, levelled the match, the first one in the 65th minute after a cross of Heberty from the right wing that was poorly deflected by the goalkeeper, the ball ended in the feet of Douglas that just had to push the ball into the net. The second one with a header in the 75th minute after a cross, again from the right side, from Genki Nagasato; the goalkeeper could not do anything to stop the ball. The end of the game was heart stopping, Chiangmai managed to score a goal in the 89th minute, but in the next play, Genki levelled the match with another header after a cross from the left side. The 90 minutes ended with 3-3.
In the first half of overtime, Heberty gained a ball inside the box and scored with a shot close to the left post. The definitive goal was scored by Heberty again in the second half of overtime, now with a shot that entered close to the right post.
We had a good start in the tournament, despite the bad start of the game. Last year the club was not able to go through this stage in the competition.
