Eight-finals game of Toyota Cup, played at home against Chonburi FC. We won 2-1 despite playing with a player less nearly all second half.
It was not an easy game for us. In the 9th minute Chonburi, 5th in the table of Thai Premier League, took the lead thanks to a header impossible to stop for Chayut, today in the starting line-up for Ukrit. There were not many clear goal chances for neither team during the first half, the best one for Chonburi was a hand-to-hand that Chayut saved with the foot after a poor control by the rival attacker. We could level the match with a breakthrough of Chutipon in the left wing but his very low cross could not be kicked, first by Douglas and later by Nagasato. In the 41st minute we tied the match, a free-kick from the right side executed by Heberty was slightly headed by Nagasato and after touching in a rival the ball ended in Apiwat in the small box, who only had to kick the ball on goal. The 2-1 came 1 minute later when Genki, after a good play in the right side, crossed the ball to the box and Douglas headed into goal after a great jump. Before the end of the first half Chonburi could tie the match but their header hit the bar.
During half time we presented to the fans our last acquisition in the transfer market, the Spanish player Juan Quero, who already knows Thai league because, precisely, played last season for our rival today. Quero is a midfielder who comes from the youth categories of Real Madrid and played in Spanish First Division in 2008 with Numancia. I wish him the best luck and hope he can help us to achieve all our objectives.
The second half also started bad for us, this time due to the sending-off of Douglas after a second yellow card for a hand-ball in the edge of the box. We had to fight nearly all second half with a player less. Despite this we almost managed to increase the score with a free-kick by Heberty that went out close to the right post. Chonburi had some chances to draw, even another ball to the post, but luck was on our side this time and we won at the end.
Thanks to the fight and work from the whole team we are in quarter-finals. It was not an easy game, but we got it at the end.
