Matchday 5 of Thai Premier League, with Bangkok Glass hosting the game against Bangkok United. Rivalry match, not only for being two teams from the capital city, but also because the visiting team had 1 point advantage over the hosting team in the standings. At the end, local win by 1-0, which allow Bangkok Glass to overtake Bangkok United in the table.
Interesting first half, with chances for both sides. The first one was for Bangkok Glass, with a corner-kick executed from the right side by Leandro, the shot went very closed and was deflected by the goalkeeper with some difficulty. Leandro had a new opportunity shortly after, following a ball recovered by himself in midfield, but his shot from the border of the box went over the bar. The first opportunity for Bangkok United came also from a long distance shot by Gasmi that was blocked by Narit without trouble. The visiting team had a new chance with another far shot, but the powerful kick was deflected with the fists by Narit not without trouble. Bangkok United had a third chance with a play on the right wing, the crossing to the box ended in the feet of one of their forwards in the left side of the box, but his shot was deflected with the foot by Narit and then cleared by the defence. Bangkok Glass answered with two chances by Leandro, very similar to the ones he already had, first with a shot from outside the box that went high, and then with a closed corner-kick that was cleared by a defender over the line. First half ended without goals, but with a lot of opportunities.
The second half started in the same fashion, with chances for both sides. Bangkok United could take the lead with a strong shot from outside the box that was blocked by Narit with some trouble. Bangkok Glass answered with a missile by Narong from outside the box that went out nearly touching the right post. The visiting team had a new chance with a play from right-to-left side, the ball ended in the feet of one of their forwards, unmarked inside the box, but his high shot was saved by Narit with a great hand. Bangkok Glass had a new opportunity by Leandro, but his shot from the border of the box, went slowly into the goalkeeper’s hands after a deflection in one of the defenders. After several more not very dangerous chances for both sides, the time reached the 90th minute with 0-0 in the scoreboard. When it seemed that both teams would get a point, Matt Smith appeared to unbalance the match, exactly like he did in the last match. After a ball crossed to the area from the right side, he was quicker than his defender and headed beautifully the ball into the net.
With these 3 points, Bangkok Glass escalates one spot in the standings, and is now 4th with 10 points, tied with Ratchaburi, team coached by Ricardo Rodríguez last season. Army United continues leading the table with 13 points, followed by Suphanburi and Muang Thong United, tied to 11 points. All these teams have played 5 games, except for Bangkok Glass, who still has to recover the postponed game from Matchday 1.
